How Heirloom Pet Products Got Started?
Heirloom Pet Products was launched on July 1, 2020 by Jason Lysak. He wanted to create a product that absorbs and works significantly faster than other products using hemp oil, which in turn provides the best life for pets.
Its first product line is hemp-based pet products that feature water-soluble meal toppers for added palatability and functional health benefits. These food toppers are designed not only to improve the taste of food for finicky pets, but to also deliver a daily dose of water-soluble organic hemp in order to promote a normal and relaxed disposition. Water-soluble hemp is much easier for your pet’s body to absorb so that it can work as it was intended to, quickly.
Jason Lysak spent a year researching water soluble hemp options before launching his products. He worked with a veterinarian to develop the recipes and based the flavors on what his own dogs prefer. The products were created by studying how mammals digest and absorb hemp extract.
Heirloom settled on organically-grown, water-soluble broad-spectrum hemp which starts to absorb and work significantly faster than other products using traditional hemp oil. Hemp is an oil, so many products that deliver hemp in an oil format have limited absorption, but by using a water-soluble product Heirloom Pet Products work faster and are more effective.
Heirloom is a full member of the National Animal Supplement Council which is the governing body between the FDA and USDA.
How We Tested?
You may have come across many Heirloom Pet Products reviews in your search and unfortunately anyone can gather information from other reviews and make their own. Or maybe the review is skewed because they received the product for free in exchange for a more influential outcome. That is not what this review is about.
To be completely transparent, we did receive Heirloom Pet Products directly from the company to try out on our pets, but there were no expectations involved. Our goal is always to provide you with a sense of what the actual consumer experience is like, from beginning to end.
We provide real reviews because you deserve real tried and true opinions, along with pros and cons that can help you make a well-informed decision about whether the product in question is something your own dog will enjoy or benefit from, and whether you will benefit in any way.
In summary, we received a box of Heirloom Pet Products to test on our dog. Therefore, a real dog ingested all of the products and provided us with quick, trustworthy feedback.
Why You Should Trust Our Review of Heirloom Pet Products?
We actually tried these hemp products on our dog. We did not copy or sum up information from other pet parents’ experiences, and we did not re-post Heirloom Pet Products own claims. We also wanted to see the products for ourselves as well as monitor how our dog responds to this type of hemp product vs. what he has tried in the past.
Because my dog has tried other hemp products, without issues, he was the dog we used for this review. His name is Sampson and he is a 6 year old shepherd/pitbull mix who usually eats anything and everything, but can sometimes sense strange ingredients in his food. Sampson doesn’t have any health concerns, conditions, or special needs but gets a little overly excited on any road trip.
After receiving the hemp products, Sampson spent the next 2 weeks testing Heirloom Pet Products in rotation, mixed with his food.
During the trial period, we watched for changes in Sampson’s health and behavior. Since he usually needs calming in the car when travelling, we made sure to administer Heirloom Pet Products prior to hitting the road.
Who This Review Is For?
With so many hemp based pet product reviews out there for average pet owners, we wanted to take it a step further. Average pet owners just want a nudge to decide if a product is safe, inexpensive and tasty enough for the average dog to experience.
This review is different. We wrote it with extra-engaged pet parents in mind. People, like us, who only want the very best for their furry family members. People who want quality, lab tested products as well as tasty ingredients, and do not mind spending a few extra dollars doing so.
For the sake of this review we began by going to Heirloom Pet Products website to have a look around and see what products they have for dogs. Not only do they have the hemp powder toppers, but they have recently added stick treats and essence, all containing hemp.
The website is pretty easy to use, with clear descriptions of products. There is currently no reviews on the website but I’m guessing because they are a very new company. The site does offers a blog page that offers articles about how CBD can help your dog.
With a user friendly website, great blog and products made specifically for dogs, it’s hard not to be convinced that their product is exceptional, but that is not enough for us.
There is no need to set up a profile for your dog and there is no subscriptions to worry about getting locked into. However, you can sign up for their newsletter and save 20% off your first order.
Heirloom Pet Products currently offers 3 flavors of the powder topper for dogs, road trip stick and an essence formula that if for both dogs and cats.
They ship to all 50 states and shipping is free.
The Heirloom Pet Products package arrived in a plain brown box and contained all 3 flavors of hemp powder toppers. The flavors are :
- Whine not bacon & cheddar flavored powder
- Ruff and Ready chicken & turmeric flavored powder
- Zen Puppy peanut butter & banana flavored powder
Each package had the Heirloom logo on front as well as the name and description of each flavor. Also included was 3 small scoops for measuring the dosage of each. The packages have a resealable closure on top which is great for storage purposes.
Because these were samples sent to us by the company, they did not contain ingredients or dosage information. Actual packaging does have that information on it.
What Does Sampson Think About Heirloom Pet Products?
I started my dog Sampson out with the Ruff and Ready chicken & turmeric flavored powder mixed in his food. I rotated the three flavors, giving him a different one every night with his dinner. He ate his food with no complaints everytime and didn’t seem to notice the topper flavors. I should add that about a week into this taste test we started a new kibble and Sampson would not eat it until I added the powder topper.
Depending on your dog’s size, the amount to administer may vary. Heirloom’s chart recommends adding teaspoons based on your dog’s weight. Each ½ tsp contains 5mg Broad Spectrum Hemp and contains around 30 uses per bag.
According to the directions, you have the option to sprinkle the powder directly onto your dog’s food, but I mixed it with a little water to pour over the kibble. You can give it to your dog, up to 2 times per day.
Because Sampson weighs around 60 pounds I added 1 1/2 teaspoons ( with provided scoop) to his food at dinner time. It appeared to start working within 20 minutes after he ingested it.
When I gave Sampson the CBD chews, I just administered them like treats and he loved them. These can be given at anytime during the day and if you give more than one should be split between morning and evening doses. The suggested dosage for the chews can be found on the back of the container or on their website. My dog can have up to 3 chews a day based on his age and weight.
During the two week trial of Heirloom Pet Products, Sampson seemed more relaxed around the house and was calm when we travelled anywhere by car. He did not have any adverse reactions to the powder topper and didn’t reject his food once it was added.

Is Heirloom Pet Products A Good Choice?
I believe it’s a good choice for dog owners who want a fast acting product that your pup is guaranteed to consume. My dog did well on Heirloom’s powder topper products and appeared to really enjoy all flavors mixed in with his food.
Heirloom Pet Products use safe ingredients commonly found and widely accepted in the pet food and supplement industry. They ensure consistent, high quality products with independent third party testing, which you can see on the website or by scanning the QR code on the product packaging. They also offer a 30 day refund policy if you are not satisfied with their product, which means you have nothing to lose.
My only complaint is that they do not provide a % of THC on their products packaging (that I could find), but state on the website the amount of THC is under 3%.
